Fibromyalgia Management through Massage

Fibromyalgia is an arthritis-related syndrome characterized by long-lasting widespread pain and tenderness at specific points on the body.  The good news is that the symptoms of fibromyalgia can be managed.

Massage therapy is one of the oldest methods of healthcare still in practice and is one of the best ways to mange fibromyalgia symptoms.  By concentrating on improving blood circulation in the muscles, trained massage therapists can increase the flow of nutrients in the body and eliminate waste products. This is particularly beneficial because it decreases the heart rate, relaxes the muscles, improves range of motion in the joints and increases production of the body's natural painkillers.

In addition to body tenderness and pain, another symptom of fibromyalgia is fatigue.  Massage aids relaxation, thus equating to a better, deeper night’s sleep that facilitates the body’s ability to restore itself.

While there is no cure for fibromyalgia, there are ways to treat and manage the symptoms effectively, including massage therapy, to allow people with fibromyalgia to live happy, productive lives.
